Jaime Lannister is the eldest son of Tywin Lannister. He has a twin sister – Cersei Lannister and a younger brother Tyrion Lannister. Jaime and Cersei have an incestuous relationship which carried on even after Cersei was married to King Robert Baratheon. He had three children with Cersei – Joffrey, Myrcella and Tommen. While visiting Winterfell, Bran Stark caught them having intercourse and Jaime pushed Bran from the top floor of a tower. He didn’t expect Bran to survive the fall but he did and was unconscious and parlayed from the waist down and had no recollection of what happened. Earlier on he served in the Kingsguard for King Aerys II Targaryen whom he betrayed and killed. He is also known as the Kingslayer throughout the Game of Thrones book.
When the Starks and Lannisters are at war, Jaime left and joined his father’s attack on the Riverlands but is captured by Robb Stark. He is later released by Caetlyn Stark on a promise that he will find and return Sansa and Arya to her. Jaime is escorted by Lady Brienne of Tarth and they start to grow feelings for each other but nothing becomes of it. During the journey back to King’s Landing and between rescuing Brienne from a bunch of Jaime’s sword hand was cut off by Locke.
Jaime returns to Kings Landing with his stump and Cersei is disgusted. She brings him a gold hand to cover his stump and Jaime gets it fitted. He feels useless because he lost his sword hand. People of Kings Landing question his ability to protect the King. His father offers him a sword made of Valerian steel and wants him to return to return and rule as Lord at Casterly Rock. Jaime has no plans to do so. Tyrion offers his guard to train Jaime to use his other hand to use a sword. Many more things happen to Jaime and at the end of the fourth season sees him giving his Valyrian sword to Lady Brienne of Tarth, a new set of armour and Tryion’s squire to help her find Sansa Stark and make sure she’s safe.
